Birth Haven's Mission is to provide shelter and transitional housing to homeless, pregnant women, primarily at-risk girls, and to instill in them the life skills training they require to become self-sufficient in the outside world when they leave with their babies.

Birth Haven can shelter up to nine women, is operated 24/7 by a professional staff that provides a safe, caring environment, education, counseling, and medical services as needed, and the always-needed love and support.

REFERRAL PROCESS: Interested individuals should contact the Social Worker at 973-579-7809, who will ask some questions, and then schedule an interview.  The interview will take about 2 hours, includes a tour, and review of our program. Our main telephone # is 973-579-7979.

OUR RESIDENTS: Are connected to quality local health care, WIC, and other entitlements, local educational institutions or programs which will enable them to complete their high school or GED, and mental health resources if needed. The residents commit to participate in the daily Life Skills and Education program which is on-site, and to the care of the house through undertaking daily chore responsibilities, including meal preparation.  Birth Haven's Social Worker (LSW) provides weekly individual therapeutic sessions in which they help the women set and work towards both concrete and therapeutic goals.

FUNDING: We are an independent, non-profit agency, and do not receive any state or federal funds.  Our funding is mostly derived from private donations, fund-raising activities, grants and bequests.

ESSENTIAL DOCUMENTATIONPotential residents are required to have medical insurance or be Medicaid eligible, to have a Social Security Card, and proof of pregnancy.
